GPS Time Synchronization System for K2K
نویسندگان
چکیده
The K2K (KEK E362) long-baseline neutrino oscillations experiment requires synchronization of clocks with ~100 nsec accuracy at the near and far detector sites (KEK and SuperKamiokande, respectively), which are separated by 250 km. The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides a means for satisfying this requirement at very low cost. In addition to lowresolution time data (day of year, hour, minute, second), commercial GPS receivers output a 1 pulse per sec (1PPS) signal whose leading edge is synchronized with GPS seconds rollovers to well within the required accuracy. For each beam spill trigger at KEK, and each event trigger at SuperKamiokande, 50 MHz free-running Local Time Clock (LTC) modules at each site provide fractional-second data with 20 nsec ticks. At each site, two GPS clocks run in parallel, providing hardware backup as well as data quality checks.

Computer Network Time Synchronization using a Low Cost GPS Engine
Accurate and reliable time is necessary for financial and legal transactions, transportation, distribution systems, and many other applications. Time synchronization protocols such as NTP (the Network Time Protocol) have kept clocks of such applications synchronized to each other for many years. Nowadays there are many commercial GPS based NTP time server products at the market but they almost ...
متن کاملSoftware-based Performance Analysis of a Pseudolite Time Synchronization Method Depending on the Clock Source
A pseudolite is used as a GPS backup system, and is also used for the purpose of indoor navigation and correction information transmission. It is installed on the ground, and transmits signals that are similar to those of a GPS satellite. In addition, in recent years, studies on the improvement of positioning accuracy using the pseudorange measurement of a pseudolite have been performed. As for...
متن کاملA Novel Time Synchronization on PC104 Platform for Implementation of a MEMS- IMU/GPS Integrated System
GPS-aided MEMS-based inertial navigation systems is a topic of intense interest. In this paper a MEMS-IMU/GPS integrated system based on the PC104 platform is implemented and the time synchronization solution is discussed. Because of the analogue constant voltage outputs of the MEMS-IMU in the process of calibration, a method of testing the accuracy of time synchronization was developed. Some e...
متن کاملPreliminary study of low-cost GPS receivers for time synchronization of wireless sensor networks
Growing public concern regarding the health of the aging civil infrastructure has spurred research in structural health monitoring (SHM). Recent advances in wireless smart sensor (WSS) technology has significantly lowered the cost of SHM systems and resulted in WSS being successfully implemented at full-scale. However, assuring accurate timesynchronized WSS nodes in a network is still a challen...
متن کاملA GPS-slaved time synchronization system for hybrid navigation
For multisenor integration, a primary prerequisite is time synchronization. Methods that have been used in many operational systems are either too expensive, or have inconvenient features, that make them inappropriate for research purposes. In this paper the system design of a Cost Effective Synchronization System (CESS) is described. Tests show that a synchronization accuracy of 0.4ms can be a...
